Project Release Information
This release is distributed in the form of a multiboot CD,
which allows you to make network
installations of the following systems: Debian 6.06,
and Ubuntu 12.10.
It is also possible to boot 4MLinux 5.1 to prepare the installation of these systems (by
performing data backup,
and the like).
This is an updated version using 4MLinux 5.1 as a core system. The main applications are: X File Explorer 1.33, Midnight Commander 188.8.131.52, 4MLinux Backup Scripts 5.1, Partimage 0.6.9, Partclone 0.2.48, TestDisk 6.13, GNU ddrescue 1.16, GNU Parted 3.1, Clam AntiVirus 0.97.6, 7-Zip 9.20, UNetbootin 583, and InfraRecorder 0.53. The supported filesystems are: btrfs, ext2, ext3, ext4, FAT, HFS, HFS+, jfs, Minix, NTFS, ReiserFS, and XFS.
This release has the same features as 4MLinux 5.1 BETA with the additional possibility of a fully automatic upgrade to 4MLinux Allinone Edition. There are two versions available to download: 4MLinux-5.1.iso (with a GUI that requires 256MB of RAM) and 4MLinux-5.1-installer.iso (with a TUI that requires 128MB of RAM). Both versions can be installed to a hard disk (and later updated to 4MLinux Allinone Edition, if desired). Automatic downloading and installing of some additional components (e.g. Opera 12.13, LibreOffice 3.6.5, and Partition Wizard 7.6) is also possible.
This release includes the newest stable Wine (1.4.1) and can open full-screen Flash videos (e.g. from YouTube) in the newest stable Firefox (18.0.1) on many Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD video cards. WinSCP 5.1.3, XChat 2.8.9, and 7-Zip 9.20 are also included.
The main features in this release are maintenance (4MLinux Backup Scripts 5.1 and Clam AntiVirus 0.97.6), multimedia (MPlayer SVN-r35564-4.7.0 and FFmpeg Git-2012.12.02), a mini server (FTP, HTTP, SSH, SFTP, and Telnet), and mystery (a collection of small Linux games). The X Window System is based on X.Org Server 1.12.0, Mesa 9.0.1, JWM 2.1.0, and the FOX toolkit 1.6.47. Both Ethernet (including WiFi) and dialup (including fast USB modems) networking are supported. The size of the ISO image is about 42 MB.
4MLinux is a miniature Linux distribution focusing on four capabilities: maintenance (by using it as a system rescue live CD), multimedia (for example, for playing video DVDs), miniserver (using the inetd daemon), and mystery (meaning console games).
