 2011-05-26 07:06 Most prominently, the new default desktop is GNOME 3. Systemd now replaces SysVinit for increased boot speed and maintainability. A new, more deterministic network device naming scheme was introduced. A new /run directory was introduced as a tmpfs, and /var/run and /var/lock are bind mounted to it. An optional dynamic firewall daemon was added. setroubleshoot was redesigned to make it easier to diagnose SELinux problems. Many other improvements were made. Software updates include KDE 4.6, Xfce 4.8, X.org 1.10, GTK+ 3.0, Libreoffice 3.3.2, Firefox 4, GCC 4.6, GDB 7.3, Python 3.2, and Boost 1.46.
