This is an experimental build made with the Debian package base. It fixes numerous bugs, stability, and usability issues in previous alpha and beta releases.

This is an experimental build made with the Debian package base. The live CD was greatly improved: profiles for the live CD are also XML-based, profiles can include each other, and the interface was renewed. Debian is supported fully as a new client platform. "Software detect" modules are introduced. 12 new tests, 2 new hardware detect modules, and 1 monitoring module were added. Lots of stability fixes and bugfixes were applied. The API was heavily extended.

The 3.x series is a major redesign of the older 1.x and 2.x systems. It features a modular structure with dozens of interchangeable modules with a well-defined API. It is available in three varieties: standalone (which runs on top of an already installed OS), live CD (which can be used to analyze or test one home computer), and enterprise (with a server-controlled network boot). Every test parameter can be adjusted. The server-based version includes a database that stores all the data on all computers that were tested by Inquisitor.

This release improved detection (Einarc v1.2
supports more disk controllers), added five new
monitorings (including ipmi and lm_sensors), added
one test (hdd-smart), and supports automatic
device flashing. The live CD now features gfxboot
and a new curses UI. The Web UI got an auth system
and wiki-like comments for each stage, "attention"
status for interactive tests, a Java SSH client,
and advanced graphing capabilities. From a
developer's perspective, the platform API was
stabilized, was further modularized, and got
embedded documentation.

The new "standalone" flavor can be built to run Inquisitor on a normal system for demonstration purposes. Monitoring support was added. New detections (BMCs, tape drives) and tests (hardware audit, firmware flashing) are available. New features in the Web UI include current order and search views, a new sticker print system, intelligent computer creation, a profile editor, progress bars, and enhanced usability. Numerous bugs in detections (multi-core processors, ODDs, memory, HDDs, USB FDD/ODD) were fixed. Stress tests are rewritten for stability. Multiple server-side bugs were fixed.
