Project Release Information

2013-02-02 07:00
This is a maintenance and security update.
2012-12-12 09:59
This release has a completely new Media Library manager, easier-than-ever image galleries, and a new mobile-first, responsive theme named TwentyTwelve. There are also improvements to multi-site functionality, a retina-ready admin, and many new-and-improved API changes for developers.
2012-12-11 22:45
Major work was done on the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor, creating a custom schema to adhere to the HTML5 living standard. It should now handle unusual OBJECT/EMBED situations, among other things.
2011-03-16 18:16
New features include the admin bar, which provides easy access to common administrative tasks from the front-end for logged in users; internal linking, which lets you easily search for and link to existing content within your site from within the WYSIWYG editor; a standard set of post formats, enabling the creation of tumblelog-type sites; archive pages for custom post types; advanced taxonomy; and custom field queries.
2010-06-18 16:17
Major new features in this release include a new default theme called Twenty Ten. Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. (Twenty Ten theme shows all of that off.) Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. Contextual help is available on every screen. 1,217 bug fixes and feature enhancements were made.

Project Description

WordPress is a state-of-the-art, semantic, personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It was born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architected personal publishing system. While primarily geared towards functioning as a Weblog, WordPress is also a flexible CMS capable of managing many types of Web sites. In addition to the basic blog functions, it also has an integrated link manager, categories, tags, custom taxonomies, file attachments, XFN support, support for stand-alone pages, Atom and RSS feeds for both content and comments, blogging API support (Atom Publishing Protocol, Blogger, MetaWeblog, and Movable Type APIs), spam blocking features, advanced cruft-free URL generation, a flexible theme system, and an advanced plugin API.
