[Please report your challanges to upgrade!]
RC2 is the last version before the stable version. And, that is the stable version for hot users! We are planning to release the stable version of the XOOPS Cube Legacy 2.1 at the beginning of next month. For that, RC2 needs many reports about actual using.

Some modules may not run on Legacy 2.1. Some environments may not be able to run Legacy 2.1. RC2 needs such reports. The community will organize these reports to Wiki, for sharing them. And, the dev team will try to contact module developers and will try to fix bugs rapidly.

Challenge to upgrade your site to 2.1! The first challenger is xoopscube.org. xoopscube.org has upgraded to 2.1 from XOOPS JP 2.0.16. And, we reported it by the specific report format. If you challenge it, report your result with copy & paste to forum, after challenging. We appreciate your contributions and feedbacks, to evolve RC2 to the formal & stable version!

About it, a new template was added. But, it is not listed in xoops_version, because it is system file template as well as the site-close template.
- User View in the control panel got to display user's level with not number but string --- Pending User, Active User and Root User.
- Added the view icon to the user search result list.
- When a mailjob has no users as the send list, it became impossible to open the mailjob user list screen and the mailjob send screen.
- Added the mailjob view screen for completed mailjobs which have finised to send mails.
- Fix a bug that TplsetUploadAction doesn't update tpl_imported when tplse is uploaded.
- Moved css.php from Legacy's admin to Legacy Render's admin, to assume each features.

In this release, there are big changes on module installer, uninstaller and updater. So, please install and uninstall many modules for evaluation.

We've revised the roadmap. Please refer to the roadmap for details.
We also change the version notation along with the change of roadmap. The "XOOPS Cube 2.1" has been changed to the "XOOPS Cube Legacy 2.1"(XOOPS Cube 0.9 + Legacy 2.1.

*Upgrade

**From Alpha4-e / Alpha4-f / Alpha5 / Alpha5b / Alpha5c

1) Turn off the active value of Legacy and User module in the module management.

2) Then, you'll be forwarded to the 2nd installer. Uninstall two modules completely.

3) Remove files of the base module from your file system.
Users must use the legacy module instead of the base module in the beta. If you keep the base module, the site may get some troubles. Please remove files of base module.

4) Overwrite all the files of previous release with all files included in the beta. Then, you will see the following screen. Please click 'Install' button to work the beta..

5) Clear cache files in template_c folder.

** Other cases (Alpha4-d or prior)

We would like to first thank you all for the tests, reviews, and reports so far. The XOOPS Cube project team is proud to announce the release of Alpha5.
For smoother development in the beta status, this release is still in alpha status. The first beta release had been scheduled in this September, but it is postponed to early October. We are aiming to release the RC version till end of October.

Current development and coming release schedule
Alpha5 includes many bug fixes such as, with help of your reports, XoopsForm templates and a new cache mechanism. Users can modify the display of XoopsForm by the template manager. And, the new cache mechanism makes it easy to tune up cache policy by a preload file.
These two feature are added to Legacy in this release, so you may encounter new troubles around XoopsForm and the cache feature.

The project team has started to check new XCube layer. Then, the team will merge the new XCube layer with the latest Legacy. It will be the Beta version. Major alteration is difficult since Beta. So we have to complete the specification of Legacy 2.1.0 in Alpha5.
This release is still in Alpha status, but that's the final stage for Legacy which emulates XOOPS2 JP.

XOOPS Cube 2.1 alpha 2 has some bug-fix and improvement from the
XOOPS Cube alpha 3, which was released in May. Please also refer to
news of alpha 1 and 2 release for details of XOOPS Cube 2.1.

1. Release schedule and future function enhancing of XOOPS Cube 2.1.
1) Bug fix of Legacy module
Base module of XOOPS Cube 2.1 is extensible by users. To ensure
coming release schedule, we fix functions of XOOPS Cube Legacy 2.1 as
of the alpha 4 release. From the alpha 4 to official (stable) release
of XOOPS Cube 2.1, we focus on trimming of XCube namespace and plan
to add following functions and updates ;

- Fix bugs which are reported by users.
- Add and adjust delegate functions with some case studies.
- Adjust SQL utilities.
- Adjust duplicated language definitions.
- Tune up templates and CSS.

We are going to wait bug reports from users for 3 to 4 weeks, release
latest archived files from CVS every week if it is needed. If we
complete trimming of templates with less bug reports, we release beta
version of the XOOPS Cube 2.1.
We are planning to release the bate 1 at 26th August or 2nd September.

2) Fix of XCube namespace
We haven't fix XCube namespace, parallel development of XCube
namespace is scheduled along with bug fixes of Legacy module.

To fix format of manifesto, specifications of XCube namespace, we are
going to develop some prototype applications which use the manifesto,
check inadequacy or shortfall of specifications. Core development
team would focus on fix of XCube namespace, we would like to ask you
to test the alpha version and find bugs of XOOPS Cube Legacy 2.1.

After fixing all specifications, we are going to merge and archive it
as beta 2.
We are planning to release the beta 2 on 2nd September, the schedule
might be changed owing to developing circumstance.

3) Beta 2 to RC
There is possibilities that change of XCube namespace may cause some
problem on Legacy modules. We'll check it and fix bugs in case of
being.

2. Changes and updates from the alpha 2 release.
1) Change in Delegate Class
Delegate Class is renewed to class design with a conception the
function pointer.

2) Adding functions of XOOPS 2.0.X system module
Some functions of XOOPS 2.0.X system module has been added.
Functions of xmlrpc.php has been omitted.

Notes:
There are many different from the alpha 2 release. It may be
difficult to update from the alpha 2 to the alpha 3. We recommend
initial installation if you use the alpha 3 release. Specifications
of XOOPS Cube 2.1 may be changed in future releases. The XOOPS Cube
2.1 alpha is just for experiments use. We ask you to use this package
at your own risk.

We are sorry for delay of the schedule. The development of XOOPS Cube
2.1 is coming to final step. To make the XOOPS Cube 2.1 more stable,
we appreciate your experiments use and bug reports.

XOOPS Cube 2.1α４をリリースしました。このリリースは、テスター向けの
評価版リリースです。
　
XOOPS Cube 2.1仕様確定前の最後のリリースとなりますので、ぜひ皆様のご
試用・評価・バグ報告をお待ちしております。正式版リリース時には、仕様
等の変更がされる可能性があるため、実際の運用サイトでのご利用はいつも
以上に自己責任でお願いします。

このバージョンは、５月31日に公開された開発者向け評価版リリース(α３)
の改良バージョンとなります。

１．今後のリリース・機能拡張予定について
１） Legacy モジュールのバグフィックス
XOOPS Cube 2.1のbase moduleは、リリース後も変更、ユーザーレベルで拡張
可能な仕様となっています。
そこで、いろいろ要望、不足機能、デグレーションなどあると思いますが、
XOOPS Cube Legacy 2.1の正式リリース時におけるLegacy の機能はこのα４
の段階のもので基本的に FIX とします。α４から正式リリースまでの、開発・
機能追加は、

・（適宜）報告されたバグの修正
・（適宜）ハックのケーススタディにあわせたデリゲートの追加・調整
・（β１まで。８月第２週）SQL ユーティリティの修正
・（β１まで。８月第２週）重複言語定義などの調整
・（β１まで。８月）テンプレートやCSSの一部改良および整理

に留め、開発チームは XCube 名前空間の改良整備と、その変更と Legacy 側
の接続をあわせる作業に注力します。

このバグ報告待ちとテンプレート等の修正行程を終えた段階でβに移ります。
具体的には、最大３週間〜４週間を使用してバグ報告を受け付け、必要に応じ
て一週間単位でアーカイブをリリースします。期間内であっても、バグ報告件
数が少なくなり、テンプレートの整理作業が終了すればβ１とします。
もちろんβ段階でもバグ報告には適宜対応しますが、基本的には最初の数週間
で一気にバグを潰して Legacy として完成品を作り上げるイメージです。

β１は、週間単位のアーカイブ再作成が３回で済んだ場合は、８月２６日。４回
行った場合は９月２日にリリースの予定です。

２） XCube 名前空間の設計決定
現段階では、 Legacy の上層（XOOPS Cube 本体）に相当する"コア"である
XCube名前空間の設計フィックスが完了していませんが、こちらも Legacyの仕
様とある程度分離して作業が可能なため、α４→β１のバグ報告受付とその対
応作業を行っている間も並行して作業を継続し、適宜マージします。

XCube namespace とその仕様である「マニフェスト」の形式を確定させるため
に、 Legacy の代替 baseや、マニフェストを取り扱う自動パッケージ構築ア
プリケーションなどのプロトタイプを実際に開発して仕様の過不足をチェック
します。この上層部設計の若干の未決定部分の検証を開発チームで、Legacy
のバグの洗い出しを（皆様の協力を得ながら開発チーム含む）全員で行うこと
ができればと考えています。

この最終的な形式・仕様の確定をマージしてアーカイブした段階のものをβ２
とします。β１の改良・リリース作業と重複しなければ、これも９月２日を目
標としています。（※開発状況により、リリースの回数・スケジュールが上記
から変更となる可能性がありますのでご了承下さい。）

３） β２→ＲＣ
ベータ工程で作業を終えた XCube namespace の変更により Legacy
の動作が一部おかしくなる可能性があります。今回のα４と同様に、協力頂け
る方全員で検証する期間をとってＲＣの段階へ移行する予定です。

２．主な変更点
α３からの主な変更点は以下のとおりです。

１）デリゲートクラス体系の変更
イベント発行的要素の近かった旧デリゲートから、関数ポインタ的な発想によ
り近いクラス設計に改めました。

２）未再現機能の実装
Legacy においてα３段階で未再現であった XOOPS2 の機能を再現実装しました。
news モジュール専用機能のxmlrpc.phpはXOOPS Cube 2.1では非搭載の予定です。

３）XCube 名前空間の設計変更と調整
α３からコア部の開発がさらに進んだため、それにあわせて Legacy 側も大き
く変更になっています。

バグ、その他お気づきの点がありましたら、こちら(sf.jpのバグトラック)又

α４からβ１へハイスピードで駆け抜けるためにも、皆様の積極的な試用と報
告を宜しくお願いします。

５．利用上のご注意とお願い
本リリースは、α版としてのリリースです。バグが有ったり、今後仕様に変更
が加えられる可能性もあります。正式版リリース時には、仕様等の変更がされ
る可能性があるため、実際の運用サイトでのご利用は各自の十分な注意と自己
責任の上でお願いします。
利用の際には、ローカル環境にセットアップの上で試用されることをおすすめ
します。
当初の予定より遅れてしまい、一部の方にはご心配をお掛けしましたが、XOOPS
Cube　2.1の開発はようやく最終段階に入りました。完成版をより良いものと
するためには、皆様の積極的なご試用・バグ報告が必要不可欠です。
