Details

CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1 (Both 32-bit & 64-bit Versions) hangs on Win 7 64-bit PC at 4K QD32 Write, Step 1/5. Same bug for both Compact Flash firewire & USB2 reader/writer devices. CDM301 on Win XP SP3 PC using same 2 CF devices works properly.

Details

After all the tests are done, (with 5 loops, 1gb each) the program wont stop. Its not even writing on the USB drive anymore and yet the program won't stop as it already displayed all the data. Also, I tested this on two USB flash drives.

Details

A READ ONLY option would allow you to preserve your SSD drive while still getting a useful test rather than ALWAYS having to run a WRITE test. I would prefer to run the WRITE tests only once in a while, using the READ test to get a quick idea of how the SSD is performing without putting wear on the drive.

And, some users put READ only files on their SSD, so the WRITE test is not needed in those cases.

So, in general, a READ only option in preferences would be useful for a number of reasons.

Some of us have old hard drives left over from upgrades etc, and some people use USB drives for back ups. Being able to check them with a USB adapter would be a very nice feature.

Your definition of MB/s as 1,000,000 is rational and appreciated. The disk volume, however, reports in GiB, yet has units of GB. Please consider adding an option to display the disk volume in GB or in GiB, with the appropriate units. (reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibibyte )

Details

When Bench-marking a USB Mass Storage Device Using CrystalDiskMark Sequential Performance test, the write test will be retried if the write speed more than a certain speed which i believe is around 160MB/s.

However, because of the nature of solid state storage medium, the retried round will actually run at comparatively low speed since it is written to the same location.

Hence, the displayed speed will not be the real speed of an SSD device.

Is it okay to tell why is the retry needed? Also, is it possible to have the retry mechanism revised?

CrystalDiskMark is one of my favourite disk benchmarking tools.

I think it would be a lot more useful if the performance figures were logged on a web database which could be interogated by other users. This would allow comparable performance figures to be shared.

You'd need to take some care to keep consistent hardware names, rather than allowing users to enter different names for the same items, but once that was done it would be a great resource. It could also be used to display relative performance information in CrystalDiskMark.

I do think such an enhancement would do a lot to increase the popularity and use of CrystalDiskMark and I hope you will consider adding it.

Some ad support might be a reasonable way of funding the enhancement.

CDM runs excruciatingly slow on Windows 2000 Advanced Server with Crucial m4 64GB SSD. I had to kill it because I couldn't wait around for anything more than the Sequential Read test - which came in at 3MB/s (no zeroes missing there, that's three MB/s)- though Passmark shows 260MB/s.

Good clean useful tool. Only one thing that concerns me to some great extend. Why do you put MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s? MB should be mega byte which is 1024 x 1024 x 1024 byte. The calculation should be fairly easy to do for display. I whole heatedly hope to see the minor but important change to take place.

Hi. Can be feasible moving the write test before of the read test in order to reduce the number of writings on drive. This would be useful for solid state drives.

Hello, On my SSD Postville Intel X25-M 160 GB, I do the 1x100 MB tests. So, the 4 tests combined should write 400 MB to complete.

Actually, after a test I got 3.85 GB of writes, nearly 9 times more !!! (these values are host writes reported by CrystalDiskInfo on the SSD).

So I suspect some bug here ?

"100MB" is Test File Size not writes volume.
