Improvements were made to various features, including the Windows installer, projection support, administrative interface, stability, and security. The RESTful service API was added to the security subsystem.

A new user interface and application schema support.

This release brings a number of major improvements. The first focus is the new Web administration user interface. It is much more usable than the 1.x series, and also enables UI plugins, like the new security UI. The other major improvement is the 'app-schema' work, to handle well known schemas and complex features. The REST API is maturing, and Oracle, DB2, and PostGIS have all switched to the 'next generation' architecture. ArcSDE has also undergone significant improvements, and the GDAL plugins are also more mature, with MrSID, ECW, and JP2 support.

This release primarily fixes critical bugs found in RC1, and also has a number of documentation improvements. The notable new feature is the new security GUI extension module, which allows editing of security configuration files through the Web administration tool.

This release is focused primarily on improvements to the robustness of the server. This includes the squashing of some rare memory and connection leaks, further refinements to the REST configuration API and shapefile output format, and many improvements to the documentation.
